Pain
Suffering a burn injury is one of the most painful experiences one can have. Since the skin is the largest organ on the body, the skin has billions of neuron receptors that tell the brain if the body is hot or cold.
Degrees of Burns
If you suffer a minor burn injury, that is referred to as a first degree burn. The outer layer of skin, called the epidermis, can heal and regrow with no after effect outside of a minor scar.
If you suffer a more severe burn and the lower layers of skin are affected, that is called a second degree burn or third degree burn.
Causes of Burn Injuries
There are several causes of burn injuries. Here are a list of some of the common causes:
- Work accidents
- Car Accidents
- Fires
- Electrocution
- Chemicals
Consequences of Serious Burns
If the skin is seriously burned, significant scar tissue is formed. You may (1) lose the ability to regrow damaged skin, (2) lose the elasticity of your skin, (3) lose the sense of touch, (4) lose the ability to perspire, (5) lose protection from the elements such as sun or rain, and (6) increase your risk of infection.
